we mentioned in the last post that we hope dine about town will become a tradition.
here's another foodie - err, wino - event that has become a favorite tradition.
each february, we look forward to the sf chronicle wine competition public tasting.
it's held in one of those huge warehouses in fort mason with an exceptional view of the bay, alcatraz, coit tower, etc.
we have been for the last three years and 2011 will be our fourth!
2010
2009
unfortunately, we don't have pictures from our first year in 2008.
we went, just the two of us, and the wifey wasn't obsessed with her camera yet at that time.
the entire event is only three hours long, but you would be surprised how much wine one can consume in three hours when your glass is bottomless.
upon arrival, we are each handed an empty wine glass {which you can take home...if you don't get too drunk and break it before you leave lol} and we just walk from table to table, point at what we want to try and get a fill up. there's also a great variety of appetizers, usually cooked by students from various culinary schools in the bay area.

wine + appetizers = a perfect afternoon in our book.
the best part of the afternoon is the line to the women's restroom towards the end of the event. you'll find a bunch of women in high heels {oh, the wifey learned the hard way in 2008 not to wear high heels to the tasting. she had a hell of a time on our trek home via walking, taxi and bart after who knows how many glasses} stumbling around to get to a bathroom stall. then, you'll hear wine glass after wine glass shattering on the floor. and each time a glass shatters, you'll hear everyone clap and cheer.
oh, the joy of being amongst our fellow drunk kind.
cheers!
